Eligibility Violin, Viola and Cello Students

Pre-College Division: Ages 14-17
A typical Pre-College Division student has made music a significant factor in his/her
life and practices an average of 2-3 hours per day. He/She often holds a leadership
position in youth orchestras or performs in chamber music ensembles, has participated
successfully in a variety of competitions, and has appeared as soloist with school,
community or professional orchestras.
Young Artist Division: Ages 18 and Above
The majority of the students in our Young Artist Division are music majors in college or
graduate school and practice an average of 4-5 hours per day, in preparation for a career
in music. Many are experienced chamber musicians and are looking to expand his/her
knowledge of the repertoire and prepare for competitions, graduate school auditions and
professional orchestra auditions.
Jazz String Quartet Program: Ages 16 and Above
Jazz program participants are select Pre-College and Young Artist Division students. In
addition to those qualities and characteristics cited above, Jazz String Quartet Division
students possess an interest in expanding their chamber music experiences beyond traditional
realms. Some may have interests in theory or composition, as improvisation is analogous to
composing spontaneously. All jazz program students embrace the idea of creating music not
completely found on the written page.
